Día de Muertos Illustrations

Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead)  is a Mexican holiday that focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. Traditions include building private altars honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed and visiting graves with these as gifts. The Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico can be traced back to the indigenous cultures. Thousands of years before the Spanish Conquistadores arrived.

To celebrate this holiday, I give you a representation of Star Wars and other pop culture icons by Mis Nopales Art. Prints by José Pulido in a traditional Mexican style reminiscent of Dia de Los Muertos.

Fashimals: Fashion stars transformed into animals

Alber Elbaz as an owl. Karl Lagerfeld as a cat. Terry Richardson as a guinea pig and a lemur. Anna Wintour as a praying mantis. The folks who run Tumblr blog Fashimals have created just that. The concept is simple: it takes every big name in the fashion industry, and transforms them into animals.

Check out their blog, is pretty cool.

Halloween Music Top 39

Halloween is coming and you’ll need a good soundtrack in your parties. Here’s my list for the Top 39 Halloween Music. Some of them are soundtracks from movies that still haunt you in your dreams, some others terrorize you in their lyrics and others just use plain old spooky sounds and instruments like church organs.

See the list.

VIDEO: Duck Sauce – Big Bad Wolf (NSFW)

Duck Sauce just released this, slightly NSFW, video for ‘Big Bad Wolf’ where they’re on a parallel universe and they’re a pair of… dickheads. Literally.

Humor, creativity, and good imagery.  A-track, one half of the duo, sums it up saying “Remember when dance music videos used to actually be creative? Like when you think back to Aphex Twin, Fatboy Slim and Daft Punk… I don’t know why the genre’s videos became so generic in recent years.” Yeap, when?

You gotta love the girl’s vagina beard and the premature discharger.

Electric DeLorean coming in 2013

Marty McFly’s iconic time machine, the DeLorean, is set to re-enter the marketplace as an all-electric version of its former self.

While this won’t be Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown’s pimped out version of the car, with its Flux Capacitator, Time Circuits and ability to fly, at least you won’t need plutonium to make it work and it won’t form frost after you reach 88 MPH.

Scary Powerful Ads

Sometimes, an ad doesn’t only need to be powerful, simple, funny or beautiful, but scary. That’s the case with this campaign for Road Safe Hawkes Bay, where they promote blended cars to all careless drivers.

Del Mar Food Truck Fest

Food truck mania has hit San Diego. Rolling to the racetrack for one glorious day only, the Del Mar Food Truck Fest showcased over 40 of SoCal’s best mobile kitchens, marking their first-ever time at the fairgrounds/ racetrack and the largest truck gathering San Diego has ever seen. It was a sunny, hot day and people couldn’t be readier for some tasty grills. Some trucks had lines of over 30 minute wait time, but it was well worth it.

Mariachi El Bronx: I Would Die 4 you

Mariachi El Bronx is the Mexican-style side project of punk-indie band, The Bronx. The Los Angeles group of five have been gaining recognition as an ingenious, stand out alter ego to their original venture. The mariachi doppelganger comes decorated with silver studded black charro suits, which makes them look straight out of Jalisco, México. They also use the traditional instruments of a mariachi band like  violins, trumpets, a classical guitar, a vihuela (a high-pitched, five-string guitar) and a guitarrón (a large acoustic bass guitar).

The punks dressed in charro suits are on to their second album which has the paisa version of Prince’s song “I Would Die For You.” Make sure to check out their new single, “48 Roses” off Mariachi El Bronx (II) as well.

Enjoy with some horchata.

I’ve got a fever.

I’ve got a fever, and the only prescription is more disco.

No, but seriously, I’ve got a fever… and a headache; last night was maybe too much. Aspirin anyone?

“You may have the money, but you have to go” Best intro ever.

TUTORIAL: Tilt and Shift your photos

“Tilt-shift” refers to the use of tilt for selective focus, often for simulating a rad miniature scene. Too bad lenses that physically tilt or shift cost like 10 million bucks. Tilt-shift apps are cool, but you don’t always get the desired effect. That’s why I made this tutorial, so you can convert your, rather boring pics, into amazing photos taken from a tiny world.
