Food truck mania has hit San Diego. Rolling to the racetrack for one glorious day only, the Del Mar Food Truck Fest showcased over 40 of SoCal’s best mobile kitchens, marking their first-ever time at the fairgrounds/ racetrack and the largest truck gathering San Diego has ever seen. It was a sunny, hot day and people couldn’t be readier for some tasty grills. Some trucks had lines of over 30 minute wait time, but it was well worth it.
Out-of-towners from LA and the OC were the most predominant in the event. Representing were Bitchin’ Burgers -whose staff were super cool with us- offering their amazing Shroom Burger with chipotle aioli, smoked gouda and grilled onions; which literally melted in my mouth. Others like Dogzilla serving a fusion hot dogs like the Furikake Dog with teriyaki, spicy jayo, furikake and kizami nori. They won me over with ther veggie dogs. It was like eating a hot dog that tasted like sushi. The Flip Truck dishing out “really really good sliders” like the Kalola with Pacific ahi, a fresh slice of mango and a macadamia-cilantro-coconut sauce, and the Ball Mi with lemongrass pork and Vietnamese pickles from Great Balls On Tires. Standing for San Diego, Devilicious served up their poached lobster grilled cheese, and Longboards Vintage Ice Cream mixing flavors like Mango and Cream.
Here are some pics of the trucks and their menus we found most interesting… and also, of some goodies we had.
The guys from Bitchin Burgers had the longest line ever, but it was well worth it. Their truck was really, well… bitchin. And their staff was so cool that they even let us take some pics from inside the truck.
Being a vegetarian, I was glad that they had an option for me, the Shroom Burger. But I really wanted to try the Black & Bleu one, so they were kind enought to replace the meat pattie with a portobello shroom. So good!
Now, let’s see how’s life inside the food truck.
You need a super efficient team with this kind of demand. These guys were doing pretty good.
Peeps were anxious to get their food.
What can I get for you?
Now, a smile from the team.
If you’re going to eat meat, make sure it’s hormone-free, antibiotic-free, grass fed.
You gotta nom this truck.
